Responding to the invitation of the Acting Rector of Ogarev Mordovia State University, the world-famous oncologist, surgeon Subramanian Somasundaram or Doctor Soma, paid a visit to the Medicine Institute. He met with the Acting Rector Dmitry Glushko and the administration of the said Institute in order to probe for joint cooperation projects pertinent to the training of oncologists.

"We have met to look at the possibilities of supplementing the medical curriculum. Besides, such events are very important for students, because they enrich them from a professional point of view" noted the Rector.

There is a serious reason to believe that in 2-3 years there will be positive changes in our cooperation with the Medicine Institute. We shall continue further discussions of plans with the Rector and Director of the Institute, working together with the head of the republican oncologic hospital as well. It is a hard and long way, but it has to be passed. If the attitude that I see now from the university management remains, then our international team will be able to really help to take the situation with cancer treatment in Mordovia to the international level" - added Dr. Soma.

During the visit, the guest paid a lot of attention to students. The Doctor got familiar with each student present at the meeting. He was interested not only in their names and the countries from which they came to study in Mordovia, but also in their specializations.

Dr. Soma called for more attention to curricular practical trainings. Apart from having classes, he strictly recommended to attend medical institutions and network with older, more experienced colleagues.

Dr. Somasundaram shared the information about the interesting projects run by his international team and invited future doctors to participate in various workshops and scholarship programs.
