NMC Prescription Guidelines

Doctor should prescribe medicine with “generic or non-proprietary or pharmacological names only”, the recently released draft prescription guidelines by the National Medical Commission NMC have stated.
Physician should avoid prescribing branded generic drugs.
The guidelines have ever laid down that in the case of drugs with a narrow therapeutic index, bio similars, and similar other exceptional cases, this practice can be relaxed.
A doctor should encourage patient to purchase drug from Jan Aushadi Kendra’s and other generic pharmacy outlet and should advocate for hospitals and local pharmacies to stock generic drugs.
